There is a lot of very helpful guidance on the Church of Scotland we site at Law Department Circulars

The best starting point is GDPR General Guidance for Congregations

This is the presentation from the Presbytery GDPR Training events in April/May 2018 – There are notes for most of the slides, so it’s best to view it in Notes mode. We are posting it here for those who attended the training events and anyone else who finds it useful.

***** THE INFORMATION IN THIS PRESENTATION IS OUR INTERPRETATION BASED ON ADVICE WE HAVE RECEIVED – ON THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF THIS WEB PAGE, THERE WAS A DIRE WARNING ABOUT NOT RELYING WHAT WE HAVE SAID  BECAUSE THE ICO GUIDANCE AND CHURCH LAW DEPARTMENT ARE THE ULTIMATE GUIDES, HOWEVER……….

…….WE KNOW THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE IN CHURCHES ARE VERY WORRIED ABOUT GDPR. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT LEGISLATION WHICH WAS INTRODUCED BECAUSE OF SERIOUS BREACHES AND ABUSES. HOWEVER, THE CHANCES OF ANYONE IN A CHURCH CAUSING REAL HARM ARE VERY LOW. THE BIGGEST RISKS SURROUND THE IDENTITY OF CHILDREN, THE USE OF THE INTERNET AND SENSITIVE INFORMATION ABOUT PEOPLE. IF YOU FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES WE HAVE LAID OUT AND GET SOMETHING WRONG, YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO SAY “BUT ALAN SAID…..” AND THEN IT WILL BE OUR PROBLEM, NOT YOURS……..

…….IT IS BETTER TO DO SOMETHING WHICH MAY NOT BE PERFECT THAN TO DO NOTHING AT ALL! ******
